UPCOMING MEETINGS:

APRL's Next Meetings

Semi-annual Meetings

APRL members meet semi-annually to discuss recent developments in professional responsibility and to catch up on friendships developed over the years. These semi-annual meetings are typically held in the same location as the ABA's Annual Meeting in August and Mid-year Meeting in February of each year. During 2013, APRL met in February in Dallas and will meet in August in San Francisco.

International Gatherings

In addition to the semi-annual meetings, every two to three years APRL holds an international gathering in addition to the semi-annual meetings. Past gatherings have been held in France, Italy, China and the Netherlands and have provided members with an opportunity to meet with and explore common ground with lawyers from other nations interested in legal ethics and professional responsibility, and also to experience the culture of the country in which the meeting takes place. In 2012, APRL held such a gathering in Istanbul, Turkey.

August 8-10, 2013, San Francisco, California

The next APRL meeting will be held August 8-10, 2013 in San Francisco, California. Our conference hotel is the Sir Francis Drake, a Kimpton Hotel; you can obtain the APRL hotel rate of $225/night by going here (our group code appears in the box automatically using this link). There will be a reception at the Sir Francis Drake on the evening of Thursday, August 8th, and meetings all day Friday and on Saturday morning. Breakfast will be provided on both Friday and Saturday mornings, with lunch also provided on Friday and at the Respondents' Roundtable on Saturday. The Friday night dinner will take place at Henry's Hunan ($40 per person). Sessions are being planned on the following topics: law firm dissolutions; mindful ethics; advising state and federal government lawyers on ethics issues; legal education & professional responsibility; lawyer conduct in blogging, listserv, and social media communications. The joint APRL/NOBC program will focus on identifying areas of common ground for our organizations, and the ever-popular recent developments session will make its annual return. For the lunch meeting on Friday, we will welcome Professor Rene Newman Knake of the Michigan State University School of Law, co-founder and co-director of the ReInvent Law initiative. More details about this exciting program will be available soon; stay tuned.

As an extra activity, we'll be having a NAPA Wine Country day trip on Sunday, August 11th, which will have a separate registration and fee. Space is limited; for more information, please contact APRL Program Chair Art Lachman at ArtLachman@lawasart.com.
